Scenes from the Journey: Incandescent Creature

Each of us,

wittingly or not,

is an incandescent creature

of such beauty,

such brilliance,

that we rival the heavens.

Having averred this positive opinion,

I will modify it with contradictions:

our incandescence is dimmed by morose attitudes,

by evil, hatred and ignorance,

by deliberate rejection

of the possibility of joy or love.

But redemption is within our power.

When we remove the dark cloak

we have donned for invisibility,

the brilliance of our being

astounds all who are in attendance.

Shuck off the assumed mantle of gloom

to become who you truly are:

your true self,

incandescent with joy,

full of wonder at the gifts of your life.
