Believing in Maybe

In the Medieval world

beliefs were communal and universal.

In our inconclusive world

of disparate and scattered beliefs

it is thrilling to believe in the maybe,

which roams over wild hills and quiet oases

and affords us the comfort of imaginings.

Indeed, if "this" then maybe also "that"

and there we are:

ideas to make a meal of, a feast of, a harvest table of,

flavoured with toasted cumin and coriander seeds

and heightened by the zest of a lemon.
