Moon Watch

I see Moon being tossed,

always upward and westward,

through the stark black winter branches

of the maple tree.

This image alone justifies a poem.

Do I sit and watch this game

of Toss-the-Moon?

Theoretically, yes, I do.

In my imagined future I do.

But actually, I don't.

My history reveals that I sleep

as Moon journeys the sky.

Or if kept awake by worries

unfounded but persistent

not even then do I turn to the window.

Instead I pick up a book

and immerse myself in fiction—

when I could be participating

in one of life's nightly wonders.

In coming years

I will encourage my self

(my true self)

to bind my soul to Nature,

by watching.

The Moon Rocker

One night

the moon was a cradle

rocking against the blue-black sky.

It invited into its capacious lap

all those desperate for comfort.

The stars sparkled reassurance.

The cradle filled up in no time flat.

Small Is Good

I can stay where I am,

but I need to direct my gaze other-ward

if I am to see the gilt gleam

on the spider web.

Micro is as good as macro

when it comes to seeing.

The diamond raindrops spaced

along the telephone line

are as enriching as a trip to far mountains.

It's all about being open to what is.

And if "what is"

is a reflection in the puddle

left by yesterday's rain,

then may I take that reflection into my heart.
